A problem I encountered and how I solved or managed it.

Last year, 2010, I did not really concentrate in class nor did I do any homework, for that matter. (Actually, I did do some...) I behaved as I usually did in primary school, not caring about school or schoolwork. I have to admit it was quite stupid... But I rarely had to study to score well in my primary school. I actually thought it was the same... So I did not study at all... And i regretted it. The first few results came out bad but I did not care. There was Maths, Biology, Geography, Chinese, English, and I barely passed... That didn't shake me even a little... I continued, broke rules and was often sent to Mr. Chia. Soon, slowly but surely, came the final exams. I studied a little but it wasn't enough.. I barely passed my finals. This year I plan on working harder. My plan was to start again in context to studying. First, when I received my textbooks, I started reading them, and remembering the facts. I also enrolled in tutions, to help me in my academic journey. I started filling my work away, unlike last year, where I misplaced my things and lost them. I also used my journal to record down my work unlike last year where I did not know what home work there was. I also started doing my homework, asking my friends what homework there is and taking down notes. Now I think I can do much better in my exams. I hope I can do much better this year. -THE STUDENT!

Something unusual that happened that day.

It was after midnight about 1.30-3am. (My clock stopped.) It was very chilly because of the strong wind. The wind was making a very spooky sound which goes, "Ooooohhhh... Oooohhhh..." My hair was standing up and I couldn't sleep. The shadow of the window was somehow different when it was. There seemed to be a shadow of a human on the floor, and my raised bed shook for no reason... Then there was a sound of a fast clicking noise, and there was the sound of shrieking from around our blocks. I felt very uncomfortable... I remembered the horror movies where the dolls killed people, so i threw all my stuffed  out of my bed.  I started feeling goose bumps... The feeling of helplessness washed over me. I just lay on my bed wishing nothing is wrong. The weird sounds continued and soon there were many shadows outside my window. Still, I hoped that it was just a figment of imagination. I could hear something that sounded like whispering... I was sweating profusely at that period of time... Then I remembered, "Why should I be scared of ghosts when I was a Christian?" So I said a prayer and was able to sleep... However, this happens often, but now I am well equipped with my secret weapon... A prayer.

A special moment I enjoyed with my family

Last year, during the December holiday, my family decided to take a month break from all the stress and heat of Singapore. We decided to escape to London, Venice, Rome and China(Beijing). I was excited about Venice, Rome but not China. Since young, I have never wanted to be a Chinese.(I'm a disgrace....) I had always wanted to be some other race for some reason. I did well in primary school but hated chinese and China. I guess it was a natural grudge, and the countless times being squashed in their underground trains, without an apology... I tried to tell myself that they had hardened because of the environment, but just couldn't get over their self centeredness. They speak loudly anywhere they go and scold you if you walk into their shop without buying anything... However, I have gotten over my hatred for chinese associated things. About London- We have been there many times. And the clothes are very stylish and their musicals are amazing! I watched Lion king, Phantom of the opera and Love never dies. I watched   Phantom of the opera the start of last year, and when I heard there was a sequel to it, I asked my parents to buy tickets to see it. I recommend watching Phantom of the opera and Love never dies, for they are masterpieces.  The story line and music captures my heart. About Venice- It has back alleys that you have to walk through if you don't travel on boat.(There are no roads and the boat taxi is very expensive because it is a tourist attraction) We visited the historical places and watched a play about its history. Its very interesting. We bought two venice masks from Venice. It is a very interesting place and is definitely a must-see. Rome was also a very historical place. The Vatican city was amazing! I love the architecture, the artwork and others! There was this chamber where the famous paintings were painted on the wall. However, we were not permitted to take photos. The ruins of the old Towers and Castles were not as interesting as they all look the same. However, the statues and the Gelato(Ice cream) were amazing! About China(Beijing)- Somehow the trip made me be proud that I am a chinese and my chinese improved. The things there are very cheap! we barely had any space left in our luggages.( In fact we had to squeeze them in.) And we visited the historical places though they all looked the same. That was the most special moments spent with my family. -THE STUDENT!

Something that took place in school

A few days ago, on friday, 21st January, a few of the students from class 2G stayed back to help decorate the classroom. They were Kendric, Ken Wei, Siu Boon, Jun Wei, Jonathan and Zhi Yuan. I was also in the small percentage of students who helped in the class decoration, 7/41 of the class, to be exact... The class wasn't so excited over the class decoration... It was good because "too many cooks spoil the soup", however, that also means we are short of manpower and would take a longer time to complete it. However,  we were fueled by the determination to beat the other classes. The person who was in charge of the class decoration was Jonathan, and I must say that he did a great job planning. The class wasn't that useless, they helped in a way.(Bringing red packets which were essential for our Class decoration as we had to fold it into shapes or use a few to build a big shape.) One of the most creative ideas came from Zhi Yuan. His idea was to string paper cranes, which we made, in a way that they look like they are flying towards the sky. There is also a tagline,"Reach for the skies". It sends an inspirational message. We made shapes like the firecracker, a bunny(which I designed) And a giant mat thing based on the concept of the video below. When our form teachers saw it on monday, They were impressed! In all, we took 4 hours, but it was worthwhile. I am satisfied by the work we've done. I really hope that we would win!  -THE STUDENT!

A moment spent alone doing something I enjoyed

The thing I did which I enjoyed...
  Homework,I LOVE Homework!
Of course not!  What I did was listen to MUSIC! and research about it. I got to admit I LOVE MUSIC!  Ah well... Anyway, Music is an art form whose medium is sound (From Wikipedia). Quite complex... It is made of pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempometer, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. There are also genres, which categorizes music into different groups.  There is - Rock, Pop, Folk, Country, Soft rock,etc... There are many artistes who sing but the challenge is to find good ones. My favourite singers are the fray, the script, augustana, florence and the machine, neon trees and hillsong united. They sing different kind of songs but what I like most are the Christian ones and soft rock. It just makes my heart melt... People buy them from discs(An album or record album is a collection of related audio or music tracks distributed to the public. The most common way is through commercial distribution, although smaller artists will often distribute directly to the public by selling their albums at live concerts or on their websites). But many people download them through the net. What many people don't know is that they are harming the economy of music. If everyone downloads music through the net for free, the artistes who sing the songs do not earn anything... In that kind of situation, very few people would want to become artistes... So my dear readers, please stop downloading free music over the net and walk to your nearest music store and buy the album.  -THE STUDENT!
